OAR has joined the #GivingTuesday movement this year and we want YOU to be a part of the movement and our mission too!

About OAR:

Founded in 1974, OAR is a community-based nonprofit organization working with men and women returning to the community from incarceration and offering alternative sentencing options through community service to men, women, and youth. Additionally, race equity is a core goal at OAR and we seek to promote equity in the legal justice system and across all systems.

About OAR's 2019 #GivingTuesday Campaign:

We invite you to kick-off the holiday season with us on Giving Tuesday! After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday! This is a global day dedicated to giving back to your favorite charities and kicks off the charitable season as many prepare for the holidays and end-of-the-year giving. This year, Giving Tuesday will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

This year, OAR's Giving Tuesday campaign is geared towards raising funds to support our Project Winter Cheer program and we cannot do this without your help. OAR's Project Winter Cheer program provides new, unwrapped, holiday gifts for children who have a parent experiencing incarceration or has been recently released from incarceration and is involved in OAR's programs. These gifts are collected with the help of the community through OAR's Annual Toy Drive. Each child participating in this program will receive three gifts along with a handwritten letter from their parent incarcerated, reminding them that even though they are not able to physically spend the holidays together, they are always thinking about them.

A quote from a parent participating in OAR's Project Winter Cheer program:

I thank OAR for giving me this opportunity to participate in my child's happiness during the holidays. The holidays usually mean a lot to children, especially mine, and they cherish this moment as well. Though I will not be physically there, OAR has given me a chance to be there in spirit. I pray that my young ones will receive their gifts and know that daddy constantly thinks about them and loves them to no end and that they will think about me every second they glance at their gifts and know that I sent it. Thank you OAR and to those who have made this possible.

It is so important to us that family relationships are maintained while a parent is incarcerated and after their release, and that no child is forgotten during the holidays. OAR's Toy Drive and Project Winter Cheer program were created in an effort to provide another way for those experiencing incarceration to connect with their children over the holidays, as these relationships are often strained and challenged during and after incarceration. We ask that you also keep these children in mind as the holiday season approaches and that's why this Giving Tuesday, we're inviting you to join us in supporting these children and families affected by incarceration.

How your contributions help:

Your Giving Tuesday contributions will directly support OAR's Project Winter Cheer program. Your contributions will help purchase additional gifts as needed, help purchase wrapping and packaging supplies, purchase gift cards for the families, and help cover mailing costs to send gifts to children who live outside of the local delivery area.

This year, we want to hit our goal of raising $5,000 for OAR's Project Winter Cheer program to ensure that no child gets left behind for the holidays.

We hope that as you plan your #GivingTuesday donations, you consider making a contribution to OAR to support these families impacted by incarceration. You can donate right here on our Giving Tuesday Campaign Page, or create a personal fundraising page and ask your friends and family to donate as well.

Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference in the lives of OAR participants and their families.
